Meet the band for BEDLAM 2023!

Scott, Ryan, Spencer, Becki and Jonathan are a group of musicians from Newmarket, ON. This close group of friends loves leading people in worship and has a desire to see youth put their faith in Jesus Christ. All of them have dedicated their lives to serving the Lord, through both full time and part time ministry in their local churches.

Scott Wessel is the Children & Jr High Pastor at Victory Baptist Church in East Gwillimbury. He loves to sing and play guitar. He uses those gifts to lead his congregation every week. Ryan Mackinnon is the Assistant Pastor at Valleyview Alliance Church in Newmarket, where he runs the youth and worship ministries. He and his wife Rebekah recently welcomed their first child into the world. Spencer Mackinnon is in his first year of study at Tyndale University, College and Seminary, where he is studying to become a Pastor. He serves as a youth leader alongside his brother, Ryan. Becki and Jonathan Friesen serve as worship leaders at Valleyview Alliance, where they boldly proclaim the gospel. They are expecting their first child at the end of November and the whole band can’t wait to meet them!

All of them are excited about seeing God at work in the lives of Jr. Highs at Bedlam 2023.

We’re so excited to share that @bckyrdworship will be leading us in worship at the Summit!

Backyard Worship is a Canadian worship collective/recording artist from Sarnia Ontario, born back in 2018 out of their passion for the simplicity of worship - that is, the power of worship through music being found in the power of the Word and the Spirit of God. Backyard’s desire is to lead and write worship that encourages others to draw closer to the Word in their worship, draw closer to understanding the truth found in scripture, and ultimately draw closer to who the Word says God is.

We’re excited to introduce you to Derek! He will be speaking on The Parable of the Sower at 2:55pm on the Saturday of the Summit.

Derek Hisson is married to Fiona. They have three kids; Aubrey 8, Aveline 7, and Sullivan 4. The summer before going into grade nine Derek’s neighbour tricked him into volunteering at a church day camp, and it was there that God opened Derek’s eyes to the gospel. He studied Religion and McMaster University, and is currently working on a Masters of Theological Studies at Heritage. He has been in Youth Ministry for over a decade now, and has been the Youth Pastor at James North Baptist Church for 7 years.

Blueprint for Impact & Longevity in Youth Ministry

Do you love ministering to youth but often feel overwhelmed or on the edge of burnout? Is it even possible to stay in youth ministry for longer than just a few years? Looking at five key principles for ministry leaders, this session will show you how to maximize not only your time, but your ministry’s impact as well!

Jen has been involved in youth ministry for eighteen years, and has been serving as the youth director for Fusion Youth in Ottawa for the last decade. Fusion is a unique youth ministry partnership, serving four different congregations in the Ottawa area, two of which are FEB churches. Additionally, she has also held ministry lead roles in children's ministry and adult LifeGroups.

Jen and her husband have been married for 23 years and have two amazing young adult daughters. She believes that kayaking on a calm summer evening is the closest thing to paradise this side of Heaven!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and devoted servant of Jesus, Dwayne Francois. Dwayne was an integral part of our FEB youth team for many years, working alongside Jeremy Best, Mark Hymus, and Eric Veen as the team grew in strength and spirit.
Dwayne's passion for Jesus led him to serve as a youth pastor at both Summerside in London and Calvary Oshawa, where he touched the lives of countless young people. His mentorship left a lasting impact on many, including Luke Cuthbert, Tyler Legouffe, and numerous others who followed Dwayne as he followed Jesus.

Though we mourn the loss of Dwayne, we are comforted by the knowledge that his faithful service to Jesus will continue to have a profound ripple effect in our movement.

Let us join together in remembering Dwayne Francois’ family in this time of grief, celebrating the life he lived, and cherishing the memories of the time many of us spent alongside him. Please by praying for his family, friends, and all those who were blessed to know him.

Bedlam is November 17-19, 2023. Hosted at Muskoka Woods. This is for Junior High!

The Gathering is January 8-10, 2024. Hosted at MBC. This is for the main youth leader/pastor at each church!

I just want to say a huge thank you to all of you who attended and participated in the Summit, The Gathering, Sno Camp and Bedlam. The old boys at FEB Central are so encouraged that this generation is not hopeless, loves Jesus and is surrounded by an incredible team of disciplers (both full time and volunteer).

To keep momentum moving, I’d like to encourage you all to come to Stronger. Rick, Tim, Tom, and Bob have a huge heart to engage the next generation of the church and it is reflected in the people they have asked to be a part of our regional conference. Please check it out! Personally, I’d love to see you all there dragging your leads along with you. Let’s get excited about what God is doing across Ontario in our like-minded churches!

The Gathering is a retreat just for Youth Pastors. Whether you are part time or full time, whether youth is your whole job description or a part of it, whether you’re a ‘pastor’ ‘director’ or ‘whatever’ else in title - if you’re employed in youth ministry, we’d love to have you join us.
At the Gathering we take time to get in the word together, discuss our shared calling and passion for youth ministry, and are intentional about resting, eating great, and having lots of fun. Time after time attendees talk about The Gathering as a highlight of their year. There’s nothing quite like getting away with a group of youth pastors!

It was so great to see you all this weekend at the summit. We are overwhelmed with the turn out and praise God for his goodness. We hope and pray that the conference has been, and will be a support to you, your leaders, and your ministry. We are honoured at Feb youth to be your partners.

Just a reminder this year, intentionally, all the speakers and breakout session leaders are normal ministry workers like yourselves who live in similar contexts to you (here in Ontario). If God used them in some way in your life and ministry please send them an encouraging message. Also, they have not gone very far, so feel free send them a DM. I know each person on the team has a desire to see the kingdom of God grow in all of your contexts.
